I have worked as an artist and designer in various media and creative fields for more than 30 years. Recently, I have been developing techniques for creating unique portraits from digital photographs.
Rather than willing something into creation, my process feels like uncovering something previously hidden. I start with a photograph, usually one I've taken but not always. I create a series of layers and break down the image into its essential components - shape, color, line, texture - then refine and reassemble these layers to achieve the finished image. I'm never quite sure what I will find.
So each portrait is an exploration...the process is one of discovery as much as it is one of creation.
